Wetlands Habitat for Grizzly Bears

In the fall of 2011, we completed a reclamation project that saw a former lease site in Alberta converted into a wetlands habitat for grizzly bears.

Native plant species were transplanted to the area to begin the establishment of a sustainable wetland. With the wetland serving as a home to grizzly bears, as well as black bears, moose, elk, and several bird species, the biodiversity of the area continues to grow. Maintaining this biodiversity is important, as preserving the area’s delicate ecological balance helps to maintain and strengthen Alberta’s ecosystem as a whole.

Over the next few years, maintenance and monitoring of the area will continue, with the goal of achieving a reclamation certificate.
